SOUTHDOWNS

This glass house is situated on the outskirts of Southdowns Estate, and is surrounded by nature, and orientated towards it. The simplified floor plan of two joined rectangles allowed for one big open plan living and entertainment space, with different areas joined by a curved ceiling, but divided with a leather screen and staircase leading to a mezzanine wine cellar overlooking the kitchen.  The glass facade promises panoramic views of the countryside and connect the indoors to a deck with swimming pool, braai and firepit. Sun- and heat control is achieved with slatted aluminium sliding panels and automated blinds. This house has a lot of green features – mag board walls, double glazing, warm water underfloor heating system, grey water recycling system, low energy lighting, wood chip oven heating system. Main furniture items like sofas and coffee tables were especially selected for the interior, but complement the clients quirky selection of décor, sculptures and wall art.
